Basketball Recap: Malcolm Comes Up Short

Malcolm lost against Auburn back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Clippers took a 50-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs.

When it comes to explaining why Malcolm lost, don't look at Preston Kucera. Despite the final result, he went 10-for-23 on his way to 26 points and three steals. Kucera is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last six games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Chase Smith, who posted four points.

Auburn got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ryan Guenther out in front who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Lavigne, who scored 14 points.

Malcolm's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Malcolm will host North Bend Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Auburn, they will challenge Louisville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup will give the Bulldogs their first taste of in-conference action this season.
