Basketball Recap: Steele Canyon Falls Despite Big Games from La'veyha Iglehart and Aleyah Ibrahim

Steele Canyon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a 52-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Granite Hills Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 38-31 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Steele Canyon had strong showings from Aleyah Ibrahim, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 16 boards, and La'Veyha Iglehart, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. Ibrahim has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 12 times she's played. Kali'Ani Ewing was another key player, putting up three points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Steele Canyon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in seven consecutive matches.

Granite Hills was led to victory by Kerstena Tomika and Jaylene Hughes. Tomika dropped a triple-double on 21 points, 16 rebounds, and ten blocks, while Hughes posted 23 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hughes has scored at least a third of Granite Hills' points. Another player making a difference was Jillian Griffith, who earned two points and seven boards.

Steele Canyon's record now sits at 7-13. As for Granite Hills, the win got them back to even at 8-8.

Steele Canyon has already played their next game, a 55-25 defeat against El Capitan on the 21st. As for Granite Hills, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 65-34 victory against Vista on the 18th.
