Soccer Game Preview: Downey vs. Linden

The Downey Knights will take on the Linden Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Downey is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 2.5 goals per game this season.

Downey is looking to tack another W on to their season record, something they couldn't quite do against Kimball on Tuesday. Neither Downey nor Kimball could gain the upper hand so the two teams had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

Charlize Phitsamay and Sofia Rosemire scored both of Downey's goals, bringing their combined season tally to seven goals.

Meanwhile, on WednesdayRiver Islands kept up with Linden until halftime, but afterwards: not so much. Linden never let River Islands onto the board and left with a 3-0 win. That three goal margin sets a new team best for the Lions this season.

Linden has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 3-4-1 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those four games. Downey's draw makes their record 4-3-1 this season.

Downey was able to grind out a solid victory over Linden in their previous matchup back in November of 2023, winning 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Downey since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
