Basketball Recap: Hilmar Falls Despite Big Games from Madalyn Alvares and Emma Gomes

Hilmar was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They fell 41-29 to the Hughson Huskies. The Yellowjackets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Huskies earlier this season, when they won 33-31.

Hilmar's loss came despite strong showings from Emma Gomes and Madalyn Alvares. Gomes dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds, while Alvares posted two points along with eight boards and four steals. What's more, Gomes also posted a 67% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2023.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hughson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Raegan Barstow, who put up ten points. Barstow continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Peyton Avila was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Hilmar's defeat dropped their record down to 5-18. As for Hughson, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-21.

Hilmar wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 31-24 loss against Ripon on the 13th. Hughson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
