Baseball Game Preview: Chugiak Mustangs vs. South Anchorage Wolverines

Chugiak hasn't had much luck against South Anchorage recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Mustangs will take on the Wolverines at 5:00 p.m. Chugiak is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.

Chugiak is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: Bartlett, who was ranked 21st at the time (Chugiak was ranked sixth). The Mustangs walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Golden Bears on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Golden Bears: they've now won eight in a row.

Cooper Marks looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sampson Young was incredible, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Pace Newkirk, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, South Anchorage got the win against Chugiak on Thursday by a conclusive 14-5. Considering the Wolverines have won 11 matchups by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Chugiak's victory bumped their record up to 15-5. As for South Anchorage, their win bumped their record up to 14-4-1.

Chugiak might still be hurting after the 14-5 loss they got from South Anchorage when the teams last played on Thursday. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
