Basketball Game Preview: Southwest EC Eagles vs. Calipatria Hornets

Southwest EC and Calipatria are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2022, but not for long. The Southwest EC Eagles will square off against the Calipatria Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with seven consecutive losses for Southwest EC and three for Calipatria.

Southwest EC is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Vincent Memorial on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Southwest EC took a blow against Vincent Memorial, falling 80-14. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-4.

Meanwhile, Calipatria challenged Palo Verde Valley. in a bug-themed battle on Tuesday. Calipatria was dealt a 64-10 defeat at the hands of Palo Verde Valley. The Hornets were down 59-7 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Southwest EC's loss dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Calipatria, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.

Everything went Southwest EC's way against Calipatria in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as Southwest EC made off with a 45-22 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Southwest EC since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
