It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Valor Christian ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They skirted past the Holy Family Tigers 4-3. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered a 7-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Elizabeth Canales spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 13 Ks.

On the hitting side, Valor Christian let Abigail Watson and Maddie Andrews run wild. Watson went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Andrews got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

The win got Valor Christian back to even at 1-1. As for Holy Family, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.

Valor Christian wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 10-0 victory against Denver South on the 19th. As for Holy Family, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Horizon at 3:30 p.m. on the 26th. This will be the Tigers' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
