High school football: No. 7 Bishop Gorman, Hamilton rematch headlines this week's MaxPreps Top 10 Games

By Zack Poff Sep 7, 2022, 10:00am

Three Texas matchups featured, including No. 10 North Shore taking on upset-minded Westfield.

No. 7 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) and Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) face each other on Friday and the Gaels have been wanting for a whole year to run this one back. The Huskies pulled off the best comeback of last season with a wild 25-24 win, trailing 24-7 with just over a minute remaining before reeling off 18 unanswered points while recovering two onside kicks.

The Gaels are the home team this time around and it's the headline matchup of the 2022 Polynesian Classic.

Some other marquee matchups in the MaxPreps Top 10 Games of the Week include No. 11 Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.) taking on Northwestern (Miami) at Traz Powell Stadium on Saturday. The game was originally scheduled for Thursday but was moved to Saturday because of lightning in the area. The Lions are 2-0 with impressive wins over No. 23 St. John's (Washington, D.C.) and Dillard (Fort Lauderdale). The Bulls knocked off the defending 8A state champs Venice in their season-opener and followed that with a 44-0 shutout of Jackson (Miami).

One of three out-of-state games featured is a huge Maryland vs. Ohio showdown between Good Counsel (Olney, Md.) and Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati) on Saturday in the Ironton Gridiron Classic. Both teams are ranked just outside of the MaxPreps Top 25 so a win will go a long way toward their ranking.

No. 1 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) makes the trip north to Oregon to face Central Catholic (Portland) at Autzen Stadium on Friday. The Braves have outscored their first two opponents 94-21 while the top-ranked team in the Beaver State beat Bellevue (Wash.) 24-23 last week.

Teams from Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Texas and Utah are all included in this week's action.
