Basketball Recap: Ceres Takes a Loss

Ceres made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Merced, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Bears by a score of 48-46 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 574th, while the Bears are ranked 261st).

Averie Steverson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Merced, dropping a double-double with 21 points and ten boards. With that strong performance, Steverson is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of A'Machi Turner, who went 5-for-8 on her way to 10 points.

Ceres' defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Merced, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-3.

Coming up, Ceres won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hughson at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Merced, they and Livingston will face off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played.
