Soccer Game Preview: Mission San Jose vs. American

Mission San Jose hasn't had much luck against American recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Mission San Jose Warriors will head out to square off against the American Eagles at 3:30 p.m.

Mission San Jose is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to five goals on Thursday, they were much more limited against Newark Memorial on Tuesday. They came up short against the Cougars, falling 11-0. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 967th, while the Cougars are ranked 432nd).

Meanwhile, American entered their tilt with Irvington on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Their defense stepped up to hand the Vikings an 11-0 shutout. Abigail Peterman was a massive factor in the win as she booted in four goals all by herself.

American is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5-1 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 29 goals over those six contests. As for Mission San Jose, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6-1.

Mission San Jose might still be hurting after the 14-1 defeat they got from American when the teams last played back in December of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Mission San Jose was down 8-0.
