Basketball Recap: Don Lugo Takes a Loss

Don Lugo played a tough contest on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Chino Cowboys and fell 64-18. The Conquistadores were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-11.

London Salmon was Don Lugo's leading scorer, having posted six points. Maya Hodges held things down on the boards with eight rebounds. Carolina Galarza took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

Chino found their leader in sophomore Tess Oldenburg, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten steals. That's the most steals Oldenburg has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Zhya Holyfield, who posted 13 points in addition to eight steals and six assists.

This is the second loss in a row for Don Lugo and nudges their season record down to 10-10. As for Chino, they pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Don Lugo has already played their next game (against Diamond Ranch), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Chino will take on Montclair at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Chino is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.6 points per game this season.
