Basketball Game Preview: Mesa Verde Mavericks vs. Rio Vista Rams

The Mesa Verde Mavericks are taking a road trip to face off against the Rio Vista Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mesa Verde's defense has only allowed 28.6 points per game this season, so Rio Vista's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Mesa Verde easily dispatched Highlands on Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Mesa Verde fell just short of Vacaville Christian by a score of 27-25 on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 64 points in the game before, the Mavericks couldn't push the score so high this time.

Despite their defeat, Mesa Verde saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jaiden Alexander, who posted 12 points, was perhaps the best of all. That was a full 48% of Mesa Verde's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Meanwhile, Rio Vista hadn't done well against Golden Sierra recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Rio Vista took down Golden Sierra 43-29.

Mesa Verde's loss dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Rio Vista, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-12 record this season.

Mesa Verde couldn't quite finish off Rio Vista in their previous matchup back in January and fell 42-40. Can Mesa Verde avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
