The Louise Hornets will challenge the Yorktown Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Friday, Louise strolled past Pettus with points to spare, taking the game 22-6. The victory continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.
Conner Gonzalez had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 161 yards on only 13 carries, and also threw for 57 yards and one touchdown. His longest rush was for an impressive 53 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Louise's defense and their four sacks. Fischer Swint refused to say out of the backfield, picking up a sack all by himself.
Meanwhile, Yorktown blew past Charlotte, posting a 61-16 win. Considering the Wildcats have won three contests by more than 23 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Yorktown's win came from a few key players Louise will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Brody Metting, who rushed for 73 yards and a pair of TDs on only five carries, and also threw for 124 yards and three touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes. Those three passing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was McKenzie Yanta, who rushed for 140 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Yorktown was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 292 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 203 rushing yards in seven consecutive games dating back to last season.
Yorktown's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Louise, their win bumped their record up to 2-5.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Louise has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 150.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Yorktown struggles in that department as they've been averaging 339.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Louise took a serious blow against Yorktown in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 39-0. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Metting, who rushed for 86 yards and three TDs, and also threw for 169 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 11 passes. Now that the Hornets know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
