Softball Game Preview: Tonasket Tigers vs. La Conner Braves

The Tonasket Tigers will venture away from home to square off against the La Conner Braves at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Tonasket has six straight wins, La Conner has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Tigers on Thursday. Tonasket blew past Republic 13-0. Fans of Tonasket have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Macy Vassar made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. That one hit allowed gave her a new career-low. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Rylee Michels and Jordyn O'Connor did most of the damage at the plate: Michels went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while O'Connor scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. O'Connor has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times she's played. Violet Chrastina was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Tonasket was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, La Conner lost 21-5 to Sultan on Tuesday.

Tonasket pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for La Conner, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
