High school baseball: Caleb Laster of Texas tops national strikeouts leaderboard with 144 in 63 innings

Rio Hondo senior has a 0.89 ERA and 14-2 record.

Caleb Laster of Rio Hondo (Texas) leads the nation with 144 strikeouts through 63 innings according to statistics submitted to MaxPreps. The senior has a 14-2 record and a 0.89 ERA for the Bobcats, striking out 10 or more batters in each of his last five outings.

Konner Keplinger of Mortimer Jordan (Kimberly, Ala.) is second in the country with 138 strikeouts. The future Auburn Tiger has been lights out for the Blue Devils with a 0.81 ERA through 69.1 innings on the mound. In the batter’s box the senior has a .368 batting average with 30 RBI.

Kevin Hill of North Delta (Batesville, Miss.) is fourth on the leaderboard with 132 strikeouts in 78.2 innings. The senior has battled back from double knee surgery after his freshman year that has kept him off the diamond a majority of his career, until this season.

Hill took the mound opening day and struck out 15 in a complete game win. He has hit double-digit strikeouts six times this year and in the May 2 playoff game, Hill struck out 14 in a 9-2 win for the Green Wave to keep the season alive.
