Football Recap: Delta Beats New Castle for Their Second Straight Victory

New Castle came into Friday's contest looking for another win against Delta, but Aven Thomas wouldn't allow it. The Eagles walked away with a 27-20 win over the Trojans on Friday thanks in part to Thomas, who rushed for 178 yards and four scores while picking up 10.5 yards per carry. He showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 67 yards.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alijah Turner, who picked up 116 receiving yards and three TDs. Turner also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up 0.5 sacks and making three total tackles (1.0 for loss). Carson Bell was another key passer, throwing for 206 yards and three touchdowns.

The victory made it two in a row for Delta and bumps their season record up to 3-3. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 7.25 yards per carry in those games compared to only 3.43 in the others. As for New Castle, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Coming up, Delta will challenge Pendleton Heights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Arabians' defense has only allowed 13.8 points per game this season, so the Eagles' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for New Castle, they will take on Mt. Vernon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans will be up against the Marauders' rather soft defense (which has allowed 39.83 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
