Basketball Recap: Eureka Comes Up Short

Eureka was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 37-36 heartbreaker at the hands of the Pershing County Mustangs. The Vandals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2018.

Despite the loss, Eureka had strong showings from Natalie Bliss, who posted seven points along with eight boards and five steals, and Keilailee Perkins, who earned eight points. Bliss is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Riley Harvey continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Pershing County, going 10-for-15 to rack up 21 points and three steals. That's the most points Harvey has posted since back in December of 2024. Kenya Vaughan also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Eureka's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Pershing County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Eureka didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 47-7 victory against Mineral County on the 5th. As for Pershing County, they have also already played their next contest, a 48-45 win against Bishop Union on the 6th.
