Football Recap: Lacey Township Comes Up Short

Lacey Township was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 28-6 to the Freehold Township Patriots.

When it comes to explaining why Lacey Township lost, don't look at Joey Davis. Despite the final result, he rushed for 98 yards and one TD on only 13 carries.

A big part of Freehold Township's win came down to the chemistry between Dakota Lasater and his top target Jake Schultzel. Lasater threw for 276 yards and one touchdown while completing 71.4% of his passes while Schultzel picked up 158 receiving yards and one score. Freehold Township is undefeated when Schultzel posts 80 or more receiving yards, but 1-3 otherwise.

Lacey Township's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Freehold Township, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-3.

Coming up, Lacey Township will challenge Lakewood at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Lions will be up against the Piners' rather soft defense (which has allowed 33.86 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Freehold Township, they will square off against Manalapan at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
