Basketball Game Preview: Kennedy Cougars vs. Rio Linda Knights

The Kennedy Cougars will take on the Rio Linda Knights in a tournament on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Kennedy picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They took down St. Francis 48-29. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

Meanwhile, Rio Linda hadn't done well against Lincoln recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Rio Linda sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 38-36 victory over Lincoln. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted since December 14, 2023.

Rio Linda's win came from a few key players Kennedy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Mariah Walton, who posted ten points and six boards. Another player making a difference was LaRay Mitchell, who put up 11 points.

Rio Linda smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.
