Basketball Recap: Palo Verde Valley Comes Up Short

Palo Verde Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were dealt a 64-24 defeat at the hands of the Vincent Memorial Scots. While losing is never fun, the Yellow Jackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 866th, while the Scots are ranked 292nd).

Despite the loss, Palo Verde Valley still got an impressive performance from Jaslene Crowe, who went 6-for-9 to rack up 15 points.

Vincent Memorial's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Paola Longoria, who almost dropped a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Longoria is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last 11 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Dafne Borunda, who posted 14 points in addition to six assists and three steals.

Palo Verde Valley's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Vincent Memorial, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.

Coincidentally, Palo Verde Valley and Vincent Memorial will both be playing Central the next time they take the court. Palo Verde Valley will host Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Vincent Memorial will host them at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
