Baseball Recap: Logansport Gets the Win

Logansport proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by seven) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Lafayette Central Catholic Knights 6-5. This was payback for the Berries, who suffered a 4-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Kuper Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Taylor Albright and Braylon Ritchie did most of the damage at the plate: Albright went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Ritchie went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Those four hits gave Albright a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson Herr, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

Logansport is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lafayette Central Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 16-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Logansport will venture away from home to challenge McCutcheon at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Berries' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mavericks have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Lafayette Central Catholic, they will head out on the road to take on Indianapolis Scecina Memorial at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
