Recap: West Valley Eagles vs. Yreka Miners

In what's become a running theme this season, the West Valley Eagles gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They claimed a resounding 71-42 victory over Yreka at home. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-17.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kayla Wiley, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Wiley has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Whitney King was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.

When it comes to explaining why Yreka lost, one person who can't be blamed is Alexes Collier. Despite the final result, she scored 13 points along with two steals. Collier has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 14 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ali Avery, who scored eight points.

West Valley has been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for Yreka, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Valley will take on Lassen at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Lassen will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 664th, while West Valley is ranked 179th). As for Yreka, they will be playing at home against Central Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Central Valley is no doubt hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses.
