Basketball Preview: O'Neill Eagles vs. Creighton Bulldogs
O'Neill is 7-2 against the Bulldogs since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The O'Neill Eagles will be staying on the road to face off against the Creighton Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on February 5th. Hopefully O'Neill focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, O'Neill came up short against the Knights and fell 59-49.
Despite the loss, O'Neill saw an underclassman step up: Hannah Hilker scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hilker has scored all season. Bergyn Classen was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 28-28 at halftime, Creighton was not quite the Indians' equal in the second half on Tuesday. Creighton took a 51-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indians.
O'Neill has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. As for Creighton, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-11.
O'Neill took their victory against the Bulldogs in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 52-27. The rematch might be a little tougher for O'Neill since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
