Football Game Preview: Ventura Cougars vs. St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Warriors + How To Watch

The Ventura Cougars will challenge the St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Ventura sitting on eight straight wins and St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy on four.

Ventura is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 28-14 victory over Agoura.

Ventura found their leader in sophomore Tristan Savage, who rushed for 130 yards and three TDs, and also picked up 41 receiving yards. The Cougars also got a significant boost from James Watson, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 148 yards.

Ventura didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Agoura to a completion percentage of just 46.7%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Myles Russell and Nathan Swaim, who each logged one passes deflected. Ventura hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.57 or higher in four consecutive games.

Ventura's defense didn't let Gavin Gray, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Rafael Juarez-Aguilar, Nathan Radwich, and Jordan Butcher, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy against Roosevelt on Friday as the team secured a 39-6 win. Considering the Warriors have won four matchups by more than 26 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Ventura, their victory bumped their record up to 11-2.
