Basketball Recap: Azusa Comes Up Short

Azusa won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Tuesday. They were beaten by the Sierra Vista Dons 64-20. While losing is never fun, the Aztecs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1133rd, while the Dons are ranked 455th).

Sierra Vista's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Priscilla Dealtan, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine steals. Those 16 points gave Dealtan a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelyn Haro, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 boards.

Azusa dropped their record down to 7-13 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Sierra Vista, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Azusa will welcome Garey at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sierra Vista, they will face off against Nogales at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Sierra Vista will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
