Softball Recap: Lewis-Palmer Comes Up Short

Lewis-Palmer had lost ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 2-11 to make it 11. They lost 11-1 to the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Rangers couldn't push the score so high this time.

Lewis-Palmer saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Braelyn Perry, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Cheyenne Mountain, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 9-1. The result was nothing new for the Red-Tailed Hawks, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Cheyenne Mountain's side, Addison Gutschick was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Gutschick has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Michaela (MJ) Ewen, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Abbi Houger was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Lewis-Palmer has already played their next matchup, a 16-0 loss against Palmer Ridge on the 15th. As for Cheyenne Mountain, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-9 victory against Air Academy on the 15th.
