Football Recap: Irving Takes a Loss

Irving fell victim to Crandall and their airtight defense on Thursday. They were dealt a 49-0 loss at the hands of the Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 901st, while the Pirates are ranked 166th).

Darrik Ward Jr. had an outrageously good game for Crandall as he rushed for 147 yards and a pair of TDs on only 13 carries. Ward Jr. is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 107 every time he's taken the field this season. Another rusher making a difference was Micah Wright, who rushed for 62 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries.

Irving now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Crandall, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0.

Irving and Crandall will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Tigers will take on rival Dallas Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. on the 25th. Meanwhile, Crandall is set to square off against their familiar foe Poteet at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
