Basketball Game Preview: San Fernando Tigers vs. Downtown Magnets Suns

The San Fernando Tigers will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on the Downtown Magnets Suns at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (San Fernando has three straight victories, Downtown Magnets has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

San Fernando is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Legacy 72-51 on Wednesday. San Fernando not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since February 10th (when they won 71-40).

Omar Chavez produced another solid performance putting up 34 points and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of San Fernando's points. Eric Dominguez was another key player, earning 11 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

San Fernando was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Meanwhile, Downtown Magnets came up short against South El Monte two weeks ago and fell 57-50.

San Fernando will need to focus on slowing down Patrick Lei, one of several Downtown Magnets players who made an impact when they last played. He posted nine points and seven rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Lei now owns an excellent 52.4% field goal percentage. Another player making a difference was Julian Macias, who scored nine points.

Downtown Magnets' loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for San Fernando, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Friday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: San Fernando has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27 boards per game. It's a different story for Downtown Magnets, though, as they've been averaging only 13.2 rebounds.
