Basketball Recap: Clearfield Finds Playoff Glory Versus Carrick

With a playoff win on the line, Clearfield rose to the challenge on Friday. They breezed past the Carrick Raiders to the tune of 65-33. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 43-18.

Clearfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sonny Diehl, who dropped a double-double with 26 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance also gave Diehl a new career-high in shooting accuracy (75%). Another player making a difference was Mia Helsel, who posted 11 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists.

Clearfield was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Clearfield has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. Carrick's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-8.

Coming up, Clearfield will square off against Laurel Highlands at 1:00 p.m. on March 8th. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Clearfield has won nine straight at home, while Laurel Highlands won five straight on the road), something that'll have to change. Carrick does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
