Football Recap: Madison Dragons vs. Clarkson/Leigh Patriots
Madison had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-5 to make it four. They were dealt a 54-24 loss at the hands of the Clarkson/Leigh Patriots. The Dragons were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-8.
Madison's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Bodonn Sweeney, who rushed for 73 yards and one TD on only eight carries, and Izac Zautke, who picked up 51 receiving yards and one touchdown. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 51 yards.
As for Clarkson/Leigh, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-3. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Wyatt Crosley was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 168 yards and four scores on only nine carries. That's the most rushing touchdowns he has posted since back in October of 2024. Tucker Matthies was another key player, rushing for 139 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Madison will square off against rival David City at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Clarkson/Leigh is set to face off against their familiar foe Humphrey-Lindsay at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
