The Glenwood Titans will venture away from home to square off against Springfield at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Glenwood's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Springfield's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Glenwood can't be too worried about heading out to take on Springfield: they just beat Edwardsville at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Titans walked away with a 5-2 win over the Tigers on Saturday. The game was the first time the Titans have beaten the Tigers on their field since May 7, 2022.
Meanwhile, Springfield was able to grind out a solid victory over MacArthur on Saturday, taking the game 9-4.
Caiden Bietsch got the start for Springfield and what a start it was: he struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Bietsch has posted since back in April.
At the plate, Jacob Scheffler and Liam Watts did most of the damage at the plate: Scheffler got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and three runs, while Watts went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave Watts a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Karter Marks, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Springfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Glenwood's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Springfield, their record is now 12-13.
Glenwood beat Springfield 4-1 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Titans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
