Soccer Game Preview: Combs vs. ALA - Queen Creek

The Combs Coyotes will head out to challenge the ALA - Queen Creek Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Combs is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

If ALA - Queen Creek heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Combs took over last week. Combs narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Crismon 2-1. Given the Coyotes' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona soccer rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Rattlers are ranked 170th), the result on Monday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Nathan Alvarez and Logan Pflugfelder scored both of Combs' goals, bringing their combined season tally to 20 goals.

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for ALA - Queen Creek's offense. They lost 5-0 to Eastmark on Monday. The Patriots haven't had much luck with the Firebirds recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

ALA - Queen Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 2-10-2. As for Combs, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.

Combs was able to grind out a solid win over ALA - Queen Creek when the teams last played back in January of 2024, winning 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Combs since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
