Preview: Conemaugh Township Indians vs. Conemaugh Valley Blue Jays

Conemaugh Township is 8-2 against Conemaugh Valley since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Conemaugh Township Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Conemaugh Valley Blue Jays at 7:15 p.m. Conemaugh Township is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.

Conemaugh Township scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Northern Cambria 44-12 at home. The win was just what Conemaugh Township needed coming off of a 57-30 defeat in their prior contest.

Jenna Brenneman continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Ava Byer, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds.

Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Conemaugh Valley, who are still winless after their fifth match. They suffered a tough 54-28 loss at the hands of Portage on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Conemaugh Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 490th, while Portage is ranked sixth).

Despite the loss, Conemaugh Valley saw an underclassman step up: Illyana Darcangelo scored 13 points. Darcangelo scored a full 46.4% of Conemaugh Valley's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Conemaugh Valley struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Portage posted 17 assists.

Conemaugh Township's win bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Conemaugh Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Conemaugh Township have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 25.3 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Conemaugh Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 25.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Everything came up roses for Conemaugh Township against Conemaugh Valley when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 65-16 victory. With Conemaugh Township ahead 43-10 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
