Basketball Recap: Irvington Takes a Loss

Irvington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 35-29 heartbreaker at the hands of the Moreau Catholic Mariners. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 876th, while the Mariners are ranked 147th).

Moreau Catholic's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Bowens, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Bowens is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaliya Kirkwood, who posted six points and 19 boards.

Irvington's loss dropped their record down to 4-22. As for Moreau Catholic, the victory (which was their 13th in a row) raised their record to 19-7.

Irvington does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Moreau Catholic, they will welcome Healdsburg at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Moreau Catholic has won 14 straight at home dating back to last season, while Healdsburg won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
