Baseball Recap: Franklin County Has No Trouble Against Liberty County

Franklin County made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Liberty County, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Franklin County put the hurt on Liberty County with a sharp 14-3 victory on Tuesday. The Seahawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by ten runs or more this season.

Colby Blackburn made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Sadiq Jones was a standout: he scored three runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-4. Franklin County is 10-1 when Jones posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Chason Martina, who scored four runs while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances.

Franklin County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Franklin County is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. Liberty County's loss dropped their record down to 3-8.

Looking ahead, Franklin County will face off against Port St. Joe at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Franklin County's pitchers better be ready for this one: Port St. Joe has averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season. As for Liberty County, they have already played their next matchup, an 8-6 defeat against Wakulla on the 27th.
