Baseball Recap: Thurston Comes Up Short

Thurston was the 11-5 winner over Hope Christian Academy when they last played one another last Tuesday, but their luck changed this time around. The Eagles took a 16-13 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hawks on Tuesday. Even if the Eagles couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Kosta Haack and Desmond Ferguson did some serious damage despite the final result: Haack went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles, while Ferguson went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Christian Johnson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs.

This is the second loss in a row for Thurston and nudges their season record down to 13-10. As for Hope Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9-1 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Thurston will square off against Ypsilanti at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Grizzlies have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.19 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hope Christian Academy, they will challenge Whitmore Lake at 10:30 a.m. on Friday.
