Football Recap: Wellston Comes Up Short

Wellston had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-6 to make it eight. They were dealt a 55-0 defeat at the hands of the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes. While losing is never fun, the Golden Rockets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 689th, while the Buckeyes are ranked 244th).

As for Nelsonville-York, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 7-0. The result was nothing new for the Buckeyes, who have now won five games by 26 points or more so far this season.

Cameron Sullivan was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 114 yards and two TDs, and also threw for 58 yards and one touchdown. Those 114 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Austin Gautier also helped with three scores in total.

Looking ahead, Wellston will host Athens at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Rockets will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Nelsonville-York, they will head out on the road to face off against Alexander at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
