Merrol Hyde Magnet got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Emma Kate O'Neill out in front who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards. O'Neill has become a key player for the Hawks: the team is 4-1 when she posts at least eight rebounds, but 1-2 otherwise. Ainsley Mitchell was another key player, dropping a double-double with 11 points and 14 boards.
Meanwhile, University School of Nashville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 17th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 44-41 heartbreaker at the hands of Grace Christian Academy.
Merrol Hyde Magnet will have to keep a close watch on Zara Campos and Claudia (CC) Cook, a pair of players who had a big impact on University School of Nashville's prior game. Campos went 6-for-13 on her way to 17 points, while Cook posted 11 points and five rebounds.
University School of Nashville's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Merrol Hyde Magnet, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Merrol Hyde Magnet hasn't given up the ball easily this season, having only averaged 3.6 turnovers per game. It's a different story for University School of Nashville, though, as they've been averaging 23.2 turnovers. Given Merrol Hyde Magnet's sizable advantage in that area, the Tigers will need to find a way to close that gap.
