Football Recap: Centennial Comes Up Short at Home Against Cleveland

Centennial unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 55-42 to the Cleveland Storm on Saturday. Surprisingly, this marked the Hawks' seventh straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Ruiz Laborin threw for 245 yards and three touchdowns. Chase Sanchez was his top target, picking up 76 receiving yards and one score.

Cleveland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jordan Hatch led the charge by throwing for 292 yards and three TDs while completing 75% of his passes, and also punching in one touchdown on the ground. What's more, Hatch racked up 23 rushing yards, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. Jacob Maldonado helped out on the ground, rushing for 108 yards.

Centennial wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 49-6 victory against Atrisco Heritage Academy on the 29th. As for Cleveland, they have also already played their next contest, a 43-3 win against Los Lunas on the 29th.
