Football Recap: Clay County Comes Up Short

If Clay County was riding high fresh off their 44-14 takedown of Buffalo last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Panthers were beaten by the Roane County Raiders 49-14 on Friday. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-7.

Despite the loss, Clay County still got an impressive performance from Jakoby Nichols, who picked up 96 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Roane County was led to victory by Javon Letourneau and Jacob Greathouse. Letourneau gained 174 total yards and two touchdowns, while Greathouse threw for 128 yards and a pair of TDs. That's the most passing yards Greathouse has posted since back in October of 2024. Garrett Brabham was in the mix too, providing Roane County with one score.

Clay County now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Roane County, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clay County will host Sissonville on Friday. As for Roane County, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Williamstown at 7:30 p.m.
