Mimi Moon commands the offense for a Bulldogs win

Recap: Buena Bulldogs vs. Thousand Oaks Lancers

The Buena Bulldogs came tearing into Friday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 55-39 victory over Thousand Oaks. Given Buena's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while Thousand Oaks is ranked 488th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Buena got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mimi Moon out in front who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Moon has scored at least 25% of Buena's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Skye Thomas, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds.

Despite the loss, Thousand Oaks had strong showings from Jaelah Brown, who scored 14 points, and Kira Jones, who scored ten points. The match was Jones' fourth in a row with at least ten points.

Buena is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Thousand Oaks, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Buena will face off against Pacifica at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Thousand Oaks and Dos Pueblos will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Dos Pueblos will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
