Basketball Game Preview: Mica Mountain Thunderbolts vs. Sahuaro Cougars

The Mica Mountain Thunderbolts will head out to face off against the Sahuaro Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

On Friday, Mica Mountain needed a bit of extra time to put away Ironwood Ridge. They had just enough and edged the Nighthawks out 70-67. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Thunderbolts have posted since November 27, 2024.

Meanwhile, Sahuaro had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.3 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lancers, sneaking past 53-50.

Sahuaro pushed their record up to 21-2 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.9 points over those games. As for Mica Mountain, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-10.

Mica Mountain ended up a good deal behind Sahuaro when the teams last played two weeks ago, losing 72-55. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sahuaro's Cisco Llamas, who almost dropped a double-double on 28 points and nine assists.
