Basketball Recap: Ai Miyano's Big Game Can't Quite Lead University over Segerstrom

University's tournament run continued when they took on Segerstrom on Tuesday. The University Trojans fell 48-35 to the Segerstrom Jaguars. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 689th, while the Jaguars are ranked 196th).

University's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ai Miyano, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 13 points. Julia Holmes was another key player, putting up eight points along with 11 rebounds and five blocks.

Abby Quero continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Segerstrom, posting 13 points in addition to seven assists and seven boards. What's more, Quero also racked up seven steals, the most she's had since back in January. Another player making a difference was Kamila Floris, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 10 points in addition to six rebounds and four blocks.

University has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Segerstrom, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

University wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 51-32 loss against Northwood on the 11th. As for Segerstrom, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Segerstrom Jaguars duke it out with the Westminster Lions at 6:30 p.m. on December 19th.
