Softball Recap: Staley Wins Going Away Against Central

Staley's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Central Indians a 13-0 shutout. That 13 run margin sets a new team best for the Falcons this season.

Henley VanGorp tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Staley got a massive performance out of Ryleigh Kramer, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That stolen base marked the first that Kramer has snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariana Baker-Laster, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Staley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matchups.

Staley is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Staley will head out to take on Blue Springs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Central, they will take on Park Hill South at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
