Baseball Game Preview: Lithia Springs Lions vs. Rome Wolves

For the second straight game, Lithia Springs will face off against Rome. The Lions will be playing at home against the Wolves at 5:55 p.m. on Thursday. Lithia Springs has now lost 14 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 6.

Lithia Springs fell victim to Rome and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Wolves, falling 15-0.

For Rome's part, Wyatt Costlow made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Costlow has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Rome's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-16 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brett Boden, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jackson Slatky, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Rome always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .769. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Lithia Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Rome, with the win, they broke their seven-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-16.
