Basketball Recap: Penn Wood Drops Highest Score of Season Against West Philadelphia

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Penn Wood). They managed a 50-44 win over the West Philadelphia Speedboys on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Patriots.

Penn Wood's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaylah Kennedy, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. Kennedy continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kailyn Freeman, who posted seven points in addition to five assists and four steals.

Penn Wood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Despite the defeat, West Philadelphia had strong showings from Donajah Tindle, who put up 18 points, and Devin Sadat, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. West Philadelphia is undefeated when Sadat posts eight or more rebounds, but 2-3 otherwise.

Penn Wood's record is now 2-4. As for West Philadelphia, with the loss, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-3.

Penn Wood will take on Bayard Rustin in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bayard Rustin will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Penn Wood surely won't give up without a fight. As for West Philadelphia, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 55-17 win against High School of the Future on the 18th.
