Basketball Recap: Katie Tal's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Torrey Pines over Rancho Buena Vista

Torrey Pines entered their contest against Rancho Buena Vista on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Torrey Pines Falcons fell 71-63 to the Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Longhorns this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 50-45 two weeks ago.

Several Falcons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Katie Tal, who went 7-for-16 on her way to 21 points and five boards. That's the most points Tal has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lily Oliva, who went 6-for-12 en route to 18 points and five rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Rancho Buena Vista to victory, but perhaps none more so than Camille Dake, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten boards. The matchup was Dake's third in a row with at least 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Salzler, who went 5-for-12 to rack up 15 points and six rebounds.

The loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 19-8. As for Rancho Buena Vista, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-8.

Torrey Pines wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 44-32 win against La Costa Canyon on the 14th. As for Rancho Buena Vista, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-33 victory against Sage Creek on the 14th.
