Baseball Recap: Monroe Area Comes Up Short

If Monroe Area was riding high fresh off their 12-6 takedown of East Hall last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Monroe Area took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Clarke Central Gladiators on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Purple Hurricanes in their meetings with the Gladiators: they've now lost three in a row.

Cayson Gmerek was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February. Hamilton Shinn was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Monroe Area's defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Clarke Central, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monroe Area will host East Hall at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Monroe Area is facing East Hall at the right time seeing as East Hall is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Clarke Central, they will take on Winder-Barrow at 5:55 p.m. on Monday.
