Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Lakeview

Lakeview had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Cozad Haymakers. That's two games straight that the Vikings have won by exactly three runs.

Cali Bentz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lakeview's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Emma Glendy, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Genesis Enriquez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Lakeview's victory bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Cozad, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-11.

Looking ahead, Lakeview will be taking part in a tournament against Gering at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Vikings' pitcher better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season. As for Cozad, they are on the road again on Saturday to play Kearney Catholic at 1:00 p.m. The Stars' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Haymakers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
