Winfield won the last time they faced Holt and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Warriors blew past the Indians 12-2. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
Ava Dixon and Olivia Van Cleve were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Dixon struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Van Cleve pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At bat, Dixon went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Van Cleve went 2-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two RBI gave Dixon a new career-high.
In other batting news, Maci Knowles was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Chloe Havican, who went 1-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Winfield hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holt struck out nine times.
Winfield pushed their record up to 11-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Holt, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Winfield will venture away from home to challenge Howell North at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Holt, they will head out to square off against Orchard Farm at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
